So what’s been going on around here this month?
For Valentine’s Day I again made Dave a card. And since I’m back to hand stitching, I made this which reminds me of the string art from my childhood days. Do you remember doing that?
Talking about hand stitching, I tried out Liz Kettle’s stitch meditation habit, and spent a week each evening working on some hand stitching.
At the Indiana SAQA meeting show and tell, I wore my new scarf I showed you last post. It’s a great way to use up some of my fabric, but also a way to display several different techniques I enjoy doing.
My friend and fellow artist Dawn Murtagh and I joined Emily Gartner and drove across the river to see Emily’s exhibit. It’s always fun to go to exhibits and hear from the artist what she was thinking when she designed specific pieces.
I have teamed up with Dawn, Emily, and Scarlet Fields to teach a workshop next month. The Fashion Art Design Collective: the fiber series will take place Saturday, March 23 at the Sauced Ballroom located in the Haynie’s Corner Art District in downtown Evansville. This day-long event will include 4 workshops (registrants get their choice of three), and lunch catered by Chef/Owner Scott Schymik. In addition to spending a fun experience, and a time to unwind and play, everyone will go home with projects.
Here are some samples.
- Dawn will be talking about color, and everyone will be making landscape notecards.
- Do you have a piece of clothing in your closet that doesn’t fit, but you just can’t get rid of it? Bring it to Emily’s workshop where she’ll be showing some of her upcycled pieces, but will also help you with ideas for your favorite piece. She’ll also be talking about and sharing patches for you to add to your own project.
- I’ll be teaching leaf printing. This fabric can be displayed on canvas, made into a pillow or cut up into individual leaves for wreaths, scarves, table runners and even added to clothes and purses.
- Scarlet will be teaching all about making patches including a Frida Kahlo patch.
Each workshop will be 1.5 hours and attendees will choose three of the four sessions. Cost for this full day of workshops and lunch/snacks is $125.
For more info on the program and to register go to this link. If you live out of town, and want to have a fun art getaway, Emily has an air B&B. For more info, contact Emily at firstname.lastname@example.org or call her at 484/597-6663. I’d love for you to join us.
I recently added some of my printed leaves to a black shirt. Now to dig in my closet for more clothes to embellish!
I finally got out in the asparagus patch yesterday. I spent 2.5 hours cleaning it up. Still so much more to do, but it felt so good to be outside. Today is cold and rainy, so no more progress on the patch for now.
Can’t believe another month has flown by!
