This past summer I blogged about the shirts I dyed for my friend Martha’s sweet girl, Jillian’s first birthday.
I decided that I’d like to make her a quiet book. When I started sewing her book, I had all kinds of problems with my old Elna. It was then that I decided to look for a new sewing machine, one that would also be equipped to embroider names, etc. When I found my new Brother sewing machine I started to work on Jillian’s Color Quiet Book.
The front and back cover is a piece of my sun printed fabric using ferns from our shade garden.
Every page contains different colors made with some of my dyed fabrics sewn over the felt pages. Since Jillian’s daddy is French, I added the French word for the color at the bottom so she could learn both.
The inside front and back cover pages have pockets where all of the colored felt squares and triangles are stored when not in use. Each piece of felt had Velcro attached to the back. The other side of the Velcro was attached to the pages. I also sewed the shapes on the pages, so she would be encouraged to place them on the pages according to not just color, but also by shape.
Here is the back cover. I embroidered my name and the year in a light thread, so it wouldn’t stand out.
