While on the Big Island in January, almost every morning we’d go for a walk. On one of those walks I found these amazing pods and just had to bring them home to play on fabric.
They are very hard – a pod like I’ve never seen. They are also BIG! So first I used one of them as a rubbing plate.
I rubbed the paintstik over the seed pod and came up with this on my light purple hand dyed fabric.
But that wasn’t enough. I took out that rubbing plate I made a while back and played with it covering the paintstik rubbing. (I did let the paintstik dry three days, iron, and then wash before I took that step.)
Then a little more paint and I’m done.
Then I wanted to try using the seed pod as a stamp. For my March art journal I primed my canvas cover with gesso and then painted it yellow. After that dried I then took the pod and cut it into a smaller size.
Next I painted it with purple paint and stamped the canvas.
I was really planning on using this as the inside of the cover but I really like it. So I’ll probably use it for the outside. Now to work on the inside and add the pages. I better get going. March is almost here!
