I bought this jelly roll almost a year ago on sale. I’ve been waiting for a project to use it.
We always take a long trip in the Fall and I’ve wanted a journal to take with me. Last year I took spiral-bound note cards which were great for writing down activities, but I needed a place to put all of those other souvenirs. I’m a big fan of Julie Fei-Fan Baltzer and she just happened to have a video of her pocket journal. Perfect for our trip. Here is her tutorial.
I loved this idea with a pocket for each day. Julie makes this with washi tape. I really wanted to make mine with fabric tape – homemade fabric tape. Also, I wanted to make this journal from supplies I already had in my stash.
Here is how I made my fabric tape. I laid the fabric strips on a large sheet of adhesive.
Then I cut them apart.
Now with a rotary cutter I cut 3/4 inch strips.
These were now used to tape the pages together. I experimented with using the adhesive in my Xyron but the fabric strips didn’t stick as well.
After completed, I used a strip of the fabric to tie the journal closed.
Since we will be gone 10 days I made 10 pocket pages. I also put the day of the week on each pocket and added a little fabric tape for decoration. I cut 4 x 8 inch pages to fit inside the pockets to write on.
This was a real easy project. You can use washi tape or any other tape instead of fabric tape. Also it could be bound by sewing the pages.
I’m excited to have this journal all ready for our trip. I’ll be able to put tickets and menus and other tidbits in the pockets. I also have fabric tape to use for other projects. Any other ideas out there for using my fabric tape?
